Scott and Sharon are safely back home (thank God) after a successful VIP Cruise Event with Park West Gallery in the Caribbean.  The crowd responded well to Scott’s newest originals resulting in several sales for Park West, which is great.

Two nights before their flight, something unexpected happened at Scott and Sharon’s apartment in Deadwood…

Before Their Trip…

I got a call from my dad sounding frantic and emotional,
“Mom fell back in her chair and hit her head on the window sill!  She knocked herself out and can’t move her legs!”
At first, I didn’t know how to register what I was hearing.  I was in shock with the news.  Normally, it’s my dad who is getting hurt and needing my mom to help make him better.  But my mom getting hurt?  No way.  She’s Super Woman.  She tore her Achilles and called me laughing about the situation.  It can’t be!
I proceeded to tell him as calmly as I could to assess her condition and find out without moving her if he thought she broke her neck.  He couldn’t think clearly and told me that the ambulance was on its way and that he’d call me when he knew which ER they were going to.  In the meantime, my husband, Jared and I packed an overnight bag and got our dogs ready in preparation for an overnight ordeal.
Thirty minutes later, I got a call letting me know that they were going to the nearby ER in Deadwood, so we filled the car up with bags, dogs, and my sister to drive down the ice-covered roads to be with our family.
We walked into the ER to find her lying in a room with a neck brace on.  Her eyes were closed and she was mumbling that she wanted to sleep.  Alexa and I both touched her softly to let us know that we were there.  She lethargically opened her unfocused eyes to find us standing over her and that’s when the tears began to spill over onto all of our cheeks.

The Story:

Sharon and Scott were watching one of their favorite shows, Survivor and Sharon got up to grab a chocolate.  She quickly walked back to continue her show when her momentum tipped her chair back and she went feet overhead hitting her head against the windowsill.  She was instantly knocked out and upside down in the chair.  Scott ran over to try to wake her, but she was unresponsive.  Scott then carefully moved her flat on her back so she could breathe freely.  She slowly came to, but couldn’t move her legs or arms!  Panicked, Scott called me to tell me what had just happened.

(She probably won’t be thrilled I’m sharing that Sharon, AKA Super Woman can get hurt, but I love her and would love for her to get all the prayers she can!)

Sharon’s Update:

After a CT Scan at the ER, the doctor came in to tell her she suffered a concussion (even though they didn’t technically say it directly.  Stupid laws.) and whiplash from the extreme impact.  They also weren’t “legally” allowed to tell her whether or not to fly, but they told her to listen to her body and that if she’s having extreme headaches, not to go.

If you know Sharon, you know how stubborn she is.  *Insert eye roll*

They successfully flew to Florida without Sharon’s head exploding and continued on to the Caribbean where she enjoyed at least one solid day in the sun on one of our favorite beaches on St. Thomas.

NOTE:  This company photo was taken the morning after her accident.  We carefully placed the Santa Cap on her trying to avoid the 5″ wide lump on her skull and removed her neck brace!

What a bruiser!!

Moral of the Story

It’s situations like this that open our eyes to what’s most important in life and that’s family.  Nothing would matter if we didn’t have loved ones to share our excitement and sadness with.

The Holiday Season is a time where we all focus on family and spending quality time, but I challenge us all to be more aware of what we have all year round, because at the blink of an eye, everything we know could come crumbling down.

I got a glimpse of a life without my mom and it shook my whole world.  My rock, my best friend, and business partner could’ve left this planet on December 6th.  I’m grateful it was only a scare, but it put my priorities back in check.
