Olivia’s Story:

“Auf dem Zaun [owf dem t-zown] means “On the Fence” in German.  Ever since my first visit to Germany in 2008, I fell in love with the culture and language.  Since then, I have started learning German, hence the title.

In October 2019, I traveled to Bavaria (Southern Germany) and visited one of my favorite cities, Garmisch-Partenkirchen where Germany’s tallest peak is.  On my long walk back from photographing a beautiful gorge, Partnachklamm, I passed this old fence.  I snapped this photo in hopes of capturing the vibe I felt when looking at this weathered fence covered in moss in front of a traditional Bavarian-style home.”
