Artist’s Notes

Photographed off Hwy 14A between Deadwood and Sturgis in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Horses find food under the snow in the form of grass stubble even as winter powders the Blacks Hills near Deadwood with a light coating of snow. These horses are fed daily by their owners, so you need not worry that they are going hungry! South Dakota horses are acclimated to cold winter weather.
