“One morning while I was on a solo trip to North Carolina, I woke up before the sun so I could hopefully capture a beautiful sunrise over the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I got to the spot a fellow photographer recommended well before first light, so I hung in my car and enjoyed a snack.

Before the sun started to peek out past the horizon, I was ready with my camera and tripod.  I photographed the phases of the sunrise, but sadly wasn’t too thrilled.  I was hoping there would be some cloud coverage down in the valleys to add some depth to the photos.

I waited around a while longer than I normally would because I had a feeling something better was going to happen.

Sure enough, a pocket of clouds showed in the valley and some clouds drifting by overhead.  The hours standing in that one spot was worth it!”
