January’s New Release Event

group photo of Jacobs Gallery local artists

First off, our Gallery is loaded with talent!

Almost all of our employees are artists, and over the years, we began carrying their work.

Our first non-family member whose work we carried was Traci's husband, Buck Lovell's landscape photography.

Since then, we started displaying Jackie's chainmail jewelry. It didn't take long to see that our customers loved her wearable creations. During the summer, it's difficult for her to keep up with inventory!

Within a year of showing her jewelry line, we decided to see how her floral artwork did.

Our collections continue to expand as we grow. Now, we have an array of painting styles, photography, and wearable art to appeal to almost everyone!

Kicking Off 2025

As a way to kick off the new year and make an event out of our New Release, we decided to start a program for the local Deadwood community. Every couple months, we'll be hosting events at Jacobs Gallery to debut their creations.

January 18th was the first night. Despite the temps being in the single digits, a large group of collectors came to witness the unveilings.

Each artist talked about their work while uncovering them for the crowd to see.

Disclaimer: The photos from the event were not taken by me! I appreciate Pat's willingness to take pictures for us, even though they're almost all blurry! 😀

The story behind my photo:

"One January morning in 2023, I set up my tripod at the end of Main Street in Deadwood to capture the heavy snow.

As I patiently stood outside my car, I noticed a man unloading suitcases from his trunk. I prayed that he'd cross the street to add to the vibe of the scene in front of me. Within seconds, he was crossing the street so I could capture the perfect winter photo of our sleepy Wild Western town!

I love the way the snow falling adds texture and the colors of the buildings give just enough color to a rather monochromatic image."

"Let It Snow"

Next was Alexa sharing about her painting:

"I've always loved weird things. This print encompasses so many different subjects I'm passionate about. It reminds me of some strange characters Tim Burton would create with her sharp skeleton-like features, but also brings fashion into the picture with her dramatic hat and juicy red lips."

"Where Have All the Cowboys Gone"

Scott's story:

"This is the first collection of my splatter flowers that we've released as a print.

The concept was inspired by the fact that flowers come from Earth, so I made it look like they are pulling their colors from life."

"Floral Reconstruction" Suite

Jackie's story behind her painting.

"This flower was given to me by my husband and I photographed it while it sat on my desk. I have had this painting hanging in my dining room for years because I wasn't ready to part with it. It means so much to me and now I am ready to show it to the public."

"Scarlet Delight"

Traci's story behind her late husband's photograph:

"My husband, Buck loved Ansel Adams. This shot was taken at night in the nearby canyon, Boulder Canyon. I love the textures and the stark contrast of the moon against the dark night sky."

"Moonrise Over the Canyon"
